Understanding the New Rules on Realtor Compensation
Effective August 17, 2024, the National Association of Realtors removed buyer-agent compensation offers from the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). This key change means homebuyers must now discuss payment terms directly with agents and sign formal agreements before touring homes—creating a more transparent but additional step that fundamentally changes the buyer-agent relationship in real estate transactions.
